Ugandans Get Busy With P-Square

With ‘unlimited support’ coming from Celtel, Nigeria’s P-Square were star attraction at a music concert last weekend in Kampala the capital city of Uganda. The duo of Peter and Paul Okoye had a sold-out show at Lugogo Cricket Oval grounds where fans practicallyidolised them.
Words from the sponsors have it that the two young men delivered a first-rate concert that demonstrated newfound liveliness.
According to Celtel Uganda ’s Marketing Director, Cesear Mloka, the company sponsored the concert because of its desire to connect with its subscribers and provide them the opportunity to enjoy their leisure time with their friends and family members.
Celtel, he says, is a great supporter of music and entertainment in Africa. The Pan African mobile operator sponsors musical events in all the 15 counties where it operates in the continent. The company also sponsors the annual CNN Journalist of the Year prize for art & culture.
So much for marketing. That night P-Square did not perform any live music contrary to the night's theme, P-Square Live in Concert. If that was a plus or not, the organisers say it didn’t matter. Even though the guys just mimed all their songs, like almost all the new breed music acts in Nigeria these days do, Kampalans did not seem to mind that night, after all they were watching P-Square. And from the moment they stepped on stage it was, to the crowd, like seeing the second coming of Christ.
Before Paul and Peter got on stage around midnight some local artistes had titillated their kinsmen with their kind of music. Among the standouts were Qute Kaye, Sarah Zawedde and the Blu*3.
Fans quickly encircled the stage in excitement as P-Square guided their audience through their world of sexy, simmering lovemaking music. They raged through a couple of their biggest hits, but it was that hot single, Temptations that provided invaluable enchantment.
P-Square were soon confronted with the stark reality that they were an act with a limited repertoire. Apart from Bizzy Body, most of the fans hardly knew the other songs they mimed to. They did about 10 songs, but it was clear that it was their great dance moves that kept things going.
That alone was worth half the prize for coming to the concert.
Eedris Plans Return
This is one piece of news that will gladden those who still reckon with Eedris Abdulkareem as the god of Nigerian rappers. We spoke with the 50 Cent nemesis during the week and he told us that he has learnt from the trials he has faced since that infamous confrontation on the tarmac of the Lagos airport.
A very mature but upbeat Eedris said he is planning a big comeback very soon। He even has a new work almost ready to drop. The title is The King Is Back.

We shall arrange to send a copy to 50 Cent
